Saxon

Now in their fifth decade, Saxon remain one of heavy metal's most enduring and influential bands

Formed in Barnsley in 1977 and fronted by Peter "Biff" Byford, the band helped define the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement and has sold more than 13 million albums worldwide. The current lineup features Biff Byford (vocals), Brian Tatler and Doug Scarratt (guitars), Nibbs Carter (bass) and Nigel Glockler (drums).

After changing their name from Son of a Bitch to Saxon in 1979, the band signed to Carrere Records and quickly rose to prominence with a run of classic albums including Wheels of Steel, Strong Arm of the Law and Denim and Leather. These releases produced enduring anthems such as "747 (Strangers in the Night)", "Princess of the Night" and "And the Bands Played On", earning multiple UK Top 10 albums, extensive international chart success and regular appearances at festivals including Monsters of Rock.

Throughout the 1980s and beyond, Saxon continued to build their legacy with landmark albums including Power & the Glory, Crusader, Solid Ball of Rock, Forever Free, Unleash the Beast, Lionheart, The Inner Sanctum, Into the Labyrinth, Call to Arms, Sacrifice and Thunderbolt. Despite changes in the music industry and the band's lineup, Saxon maintained a relentless touring schedule, headlining major festivals around the world and remaining one of the genre's most respected live acts.

In recent years the band celebrated its 40th anniversary with The Eagle Has Landed 40, released the covers album Inspirations (2021), and returned with the acclaimed Hell, Fire and Damnation (2024), their 24th studio album and the first to feature guitarist Brian Tatler. Continuing to record and tour globally, Saxon remain one of Britain's most celebrated heavy metal bands, carrying the spirit of classic metal into a new generation.
