Regarded by critics and fans alike as one of Europe’s most distinctive alternative art-rock bands, Nosound was founded in 2001 by multi-instrumentalist Giancarlo Erra as a solo studio project before evolving into a full band. Blending influences from '70s psychedelia, '80s/'90s ambient, post-rock and contemporary alternative music, Nosound has become known for its evocative, cinematic sound, often drawing comparisons to artists such as Pink Floyd, Brian Eno and Radiohead.
Following the release of the debut album Sol29 in 2005, Nosound quickly gained international recognition, leading Erra to assemble a permanent live band. The acclaimed second album, Lightdark (2008), featuring collaborations with Tim Bowness (No-Man) and Marianne DeChastelaine, coincided with the band's signing to Kscope and earned the first of two consecutive Italian Prog Awards for Best Recording. A Sense of Loss (2009) further established Nosound's identity with its orchestral arrangements and emotional depth, while subsequent releases including Afterthoughts (2013), Teide 2390 (2015) and Scintilla (2016) continued to expand the band's artistic vision through immersive production and acclaimed live performances.
Following a seven-year recording hiatus, Nosound returned in 2025 with To The Core, a stripped-back and deeply personal mini-album centred on Giancarlo Erra's songwriting, marking a new chapter in the band's evolution.
Today, Nosound continues as an evolving collective centred around Erra, featuring a rotating lineup of acclaimed musicians including Paolo Vigliarolo (guitars), Marco Berni (keyboards), Orazio Fabbri (bass), and various touring and recording collaborators. Over more than two decades, the band has established itself as one of the defining names in contemporary progressive and alternative art rock.
