MOJO FURY are a rock band from Belfast, Northern Ireland
Based in nearby Lisburn, the band operate from their own home studio – a converted farmhouse that has given them the freedom and time to craft their second album, The Difference Between.
The four-piece first crossed paths while studying music in Bangor. Although Northern Ireland might seem removed from the traditional centres of the music industry, the region has developed a reputation for producing exceptional talent. Acts such as And So I Watch You From Afar and Two Door Cinema Club have demonstrated that international success is possible, while labels like Derry's Smalltown America and artists including Jetplane Landing have helped establish Northern Ireland as a thriving force within the wider musical landscape.
By the time Mojo Fury released their debut album, Visiting Hours of a Travelling Circus, in 2011, the record had been almost five years in the making. The earliest ideas emerged during the band's formative years, when youthful experimentation and raw enthusiasm shaped their sound. Yet the finished album was anything but unrefined. It showcased a band unafraid of contrast: from the ferocious, post-hardcore energy of The Mann to the driving, synth-fuelled anthem We Should Just Run Away. Tracks such as Electric Sea, rich with emotion and harmony, sat comfortably alongside the playful chaos of Bones, complete with its unexpected honky-tonk piano flourishes. The result was an album that captivated some listeners while challenging others.
Those who embraced it did so wholeheartedly. BBC Radio 1 described the band as:
"They're ferocious, they're exciting, they're challenging, on top of being effortlessly cool; they're just a brilliant band."
Moving into 2013, Mojo Fury faced the challenge of building on the promise that had seen Artrocker name them one of its "New Blood" bands of the year in 2011. Their songwriting had evolved; while traces of the urgency and tension that defined their debut remained, the overwhelming angst of those early recordings had given way to a broader emotional palette.
The title track, The Difference Between, premiered through Kerrang! and Classic Rock, revealing a band capable of channeling a larger-than-life energy reminiscent of Led Zeppelin at their most expansive. At the same time, the release of Iris Influential pointed towards new creative territory, blending shimmering melodies, piano motifs and electronic textures. Its debut via Clash Music highlighted the band's willingness to push beyond established expectations.
Latest single Origami Bird captures another side of Mojo Fury that has remained constant throughout their evolution: their sense of fun. Arguably the closest the band have come to writing a pop song, it even hints at the influence of Prince woven into their sound. It forms part of an album that is, by turns, epic, heavy, subtle and undeniably danceable.
Further shaped by a trusted creative team, The Difference Between was mixed by Catherine Marks (Foals, Death Cab for Cutie, The Vaccines) and mastered by Nick Watson (Faith No More, Therapy?, Gary Numan), helping the band refine and strengthen their distinctive identity.
The Difference Between was released on Friday 18 October 2013 through PledgeMusic. Choosing the platform allowed Mojo Fury to engage directly with their audience throughout the album's release, offering exclusive experiences and incentives to fans who wanted to become part of the journey. The record stands as a testament to a band determined to follow its own path, creating music entirely on its own terms.
